Help with Funding
Please note: We are not a grant-giving body, but we can offer
help and guidance on accessing funding.
Search for Funders with our FunderFinder 'Groups In Need' software
We are a registered user of the 'Groups
in Need' software from FunderFinder to help groups better
identify potential sources of funding. The software works by filtering
through its database and selecting relevant funders according to
keywords and requirements entered by the user. Our Information &
Advice Worker can find out the needs of the client and the characteristics
of the project or organisation, then run the search and return the
results to the client. Alternatively, the search can be carried
out at our office with the Client and the results viewed and amended
on screen. If the funder has a website it will be supplied, and
contact and criteria details can be found in various publications
including 'A Guide to the Major Trusts' (Pub:DSC) of which we have
copies.
There
is no charge for a FunderFinder search, although organisations are
welcome to make a donation for general funding advice.
Most major Trusts will only give money to those
organisations with charity status or who are undergoing charitable
registration. However, we can advise on other sources of funding for
groups who are constituted but who do not have charity status.
Free software
FunderFinder offer free software to groups
and organisations in need of help with writing funding applications
and budgets. They can be downloaded from their website at:
www.funderfinder.org.uk . Details are as follows:
Apply Yourselves (April 2003,
version 2, edition 3): Helps voluntary and community groups
write effective funding applications. Use it to draft a letter or
proposal to funders. As you write, click on buttons and text to
get advice about what should be included. Look up jargon, use the
examples for ideas, or print out the questionnaire to help you to
be self-critical. Runs on any computer running Windows (available
from Merseyside Network for Change on one floppy disk).
Budget Yourselves (January 2005,
version 2, edition 1): Helps voluntary and community groups
write effective budgets. It provides lots of advice about the process
of making a budget, things that might need to go in it, and how
to work out accurate costs. Use it to link budgets and compare actual
income and expenditure with your budget figures. It does the calculating,
so if you change any of the figures, your budget will still add
up. Runs on any computer running Windows 95 or higher (available
from Merseyside Network for Change on two floppy disks).
The FunderFinder website also has a wide
range of other resources to assist with funding.
If you have problems downloading the software
from the site we can provide free copies of FunderFinder
software on disk to organisations.
To request a FunderFinder search,
or to obtain free copies on disk of the Funderfinder software, please contact us.
With this assistance, we hope
that client organisations should be better equipped to tackle the
often formidable area of fundraising.
