Time Together brings local Liverpool people and newcomers to the city together in a mentoring relationship which allows them to share their experiences, knowledge and hopes for the future.
Time Together aims is assist refugees achieve their goals in education, employment and to generally settle into their new life here with a mentor providing encouragement, motivation and support. Being a mentor is like being someones friend and may involve formal or informal meetings but more often will be a mixture of both.
Time Together aims to help refugees overcome the barriers they face in integrating and settling into their new lives. Language is a barrier that can isolate refugees and many refugees who come on to the scheme want the opportunity to practice their English to assist in improving their English skills.
Time Together also aims to combat the the problems that have been created by negative media reporting on issues related to refugees which has led to distrust and fear between both communities new and old. By forging relationships and promoting positive images in the media this can be overcome.
