Merseyside faces major challenges
of social exclusion and regeneration. Those most affected by these
challenges, residents of particularly deprived neighbourhoods and
members of systematically excluded communities have a long tradition
of self-organisation. However, they do not always have the skills,
organisational capacity and systems needed if they are to be adequately
involved in meeting these challenges.
Liverpool Network for Change was set up in 2001
to redress this disadvantage.
Initial funding for the Network came from a variety
of charitable trusts and agencies who had commissioned work. More
recently, the Network received an award from the Community Fund
for our Community Empowerment Project. We are also contracted to
manage the Kensington Bursary Project.
We are members of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, the
Charity Law Association and NCVO.
We administer Merseyside Refugee Support Network, Wirral Change and the Merseyside Council of Faiths. Contact details for these organisations can be found on our
Links page.
We also run a partnership with Asylum Link Merseyside and others to deliver Time Together, a mentoring project for refugees. Time Together is administered by Merseyside Network for Change.
In January 2007, Liverpool Network for Change name was changed to Merseyside Network for Change to better reflect the sub-regional nature of our work.
